Drinking Water - Reverse osmosis (RO) provides the safest and best tasting water. PLAN for a separate RO water line from your sink to your refrigerator (where most RO units are installed). Install lines to other locations you would like good drinking water at. A wet bar, or master bath? Don't use copper for reverse osmosis water! Non metallic material is best.
Soft Water - "Automatic" water softeners are the most cost-effective and reliable way to condition your water. PLAN for a softener "loop" and "drain". ALL water in the house should be softened - there is no such thing as "half" soft water. Older style electric softeners will also need a 110 - 115V outlet (Kinetico softeners are non-electric). Also, if you want better results when washing your car etc., consider an outside soft water line.
